Wedding Guest List...Oh my! Best Advice...

The very thought of having to take on this task strikes horror in some brides hearts . #1 Best Advice : Do not delay. Begin creating your guest list as soon as possible.You will want to consider your number of guests before final decisions on the venue for your wedding and reception .You need the reception site and wedding location finalized before you can order your invitations to invite your guests.
Once your guest count is established between you and your soon to be spouse,make sure to verify with parents that their list is included in the final count.

Sometimes the count can be very hard to deal with. Sooo many friends and family!
Only so much in the budget ? Not enough room at the ceremony site of your dreams to accommodate everyone.#2 Best Advice :When absolutely having to make hard choices on your guest list ask yourself (and have your finance' to also answer ) this question : If I run into this person at a party or a family function will I feel guilty or want to avoid them because I did not invite them to our wedding? If your answer is no then obviously you and your fiance' do not know them well enough for it to be an issue for the two of you. It is YOUR wedding . You want your loved ones, and very best friends there. Sometimes the situation does not work out for even some family and friends that you truly want to have there,be included. First express your regret through family and friends that due to the venue size not everyone you wished to include were able to be invited.

Tip : Really want to have a low key celebration with those that were not able to be invited to your wedding ? Stress free cookout could be a fun way to meet those friends and family as brand new husband and wife! Let the word out that after your honeymoon you hope within a few weeks or months , if logistics dictate, to have an informal get together to celebrate. Parents usually will be happy to host this at home, especially if family members/friends that they are close with were not able to be invited and now will be included.

If budget/space does not restrict and you want to make sure you and your parents have long lost family members/friends present , then no problem, you will be able to make everyone happy. How miracles are made.

1. Specificity.

Do you know what you want? Do you believe that you can actually have it? Do you believe that you actually DESERVE TO HAVE IT?

The more specific we are, the more we open our minds and hearts to possibility.

Don’t limit yourself by being “realistic.” Who defines what realistic even IS in the first place. Bleh.

I could write a whole ANTHOLOGY on all the complete and total NORMALCIES (is that a real word?) of the here and now that were at one point seen as unrealistic… or worse, COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY UNFATHOMABLE. (Man on the moon, the 4 min mile, electricity… THE INVENTION OF THE WHEEL!)

BE.SPECIFIC.

2. Put it out there.

Don’t be afraid to tell other people what you’re doing, wanting, searching for. The potential benefit FAR outweighs the risk. Ask for help. Ask for guidance. ASK FOR WHAT YOU NEED.

“Ask and ye shall receive.”

“Ye have not, because ye ask not.”

Yadda, yadda, yadda. Enough said.

3. Be open to third alternatives.

Every time I set a goal or dream a dream or ask for something wonderful, I say in my mind, “This or something even better!” I learned it from my mom, who probably learned it from her mom, who probably made it up, because she was incredible.

Trust that if your heart’s in it, the very best thing, experience, lesson, etc etc etc is on it’s way!

Even if it’s not precisely what you’d anticipated, take it and run, or leap, or learn.

As I shared today on my personal blog, you don’t want to get so busy climbing the “ladder of success” that you haven’t paid any attention to which wall it’s leaning up against! You could miss a million miracles along the way!

Special Wedding Weekend With Bells On.... Part 2

Brian and Lauren flew to North Carolina from New Jersey to visit for Mother's Day. Of course we were all excited about their arrival as we had not seen them since before their engagement . Finally....we would get to see the ring on Lauren's finger in person instead of just in a picture! We would get to give official hugs and kisses and hear all about their wedding plans. They had already asked to set aside time to look at invitations and a Sandals honeymoon . I looked forward to see what their vision for their wedding would be.

They chose a stunning invitation ensemble , very simple, fun and unique by the name of Fall Ambience. Lauren and Brian have a wonderful sense of humor . The bells first came into play with the wording for the response cards.

This is where the fun began. All sorts of responses came in regarding attendance at the wedding and

"the bell controversy"...

The longest reply regarding the bell controversy was received by Sharon and Mark, Lauren's gracious parent's from Brian's Aunt Glory.

Response to the bell controversy:

I am writing to express my thoughts on the bell controversy. That there will be those in attendance who are sans bells or even anti-bell is disturbing to me. Bells are an integral part of my life. I am presently re-reading For Whom the Bell Tolls. Hemingway was very pro bell. My favorite inventor is Alexander Graham Bell. My favorite invention in recent years is “the clapper”. Among my favorite flowers are Blue Bells. My favorite songs include The Bells of St. Mary, Silver Bells, the Three Bells and When They Ring Those Golden Bells. One of favorite operas is The Bells of Corneville. One of my closest childhood friends was Vickie Bell. My youth was spent sporting fashionable bell bottom pants. My chosen profession was centered on the bell shaped curve. One of my favorite expressions ending my classes was “saved by the bell”. My favorite service professionals are bell hops. My favorite scientists do their observations from diving bells. My best anatomical feature is my bell(y) button (don’t ask for proof). My favorite fast food establishment is Taco Bell. One of my beautiful granddaughters is named Izabelle. My favorite historical site is the Liberty Bell. Some of my favorite worship music is produced by hand bells. My favorite percussion instrument is the bells. My favorite farm animal is the cow because of the customary cow bell adornment. My favorite site for elopement (not suggesting anything) is The Chapel of the Bells in Las Vegas. A wonderful honeymoon spot is Bell’s Beach in Australia. I could go on (and on and on). I’m sure Brian will share with you some of the terms of endearment used for his favorite relative: Belle of the ball, ding a ling, ding dong and no………….I do not have bats in my belfry.

Inspiration for Heirloom Engagement Ring

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with a lovely couple, Katie and Will today. They came to me for their wedding stationery ensemble consultation and also other aspects of their wedding . Everyone who knows me, knows I love the “rest of the story” as Paul Harvey used to say!Okay,I know I may be dating myself a bit but Katie and Will knew who Paul Harvey was... and his famous saying!I hope you will enjoy the”rest of the story”.

I noticed the unique ring right away on Katie's hand. It had the look of an heirloom and… it was. While she was telling me the story behind her ring, I could envision all of the family history and love associated with this 3 diamond ring.I wanted to share with you,how this couple decided upon their engagement ring, the design and the special meanings behind it. This could be an inspiration for you , whether you are a bride or groom to be , an aunt , a mother or grandmother, wishing to bestow or incorporate a special remembrance for any special occasion(especially a wedding) in a way that will be greatly remembered and appreciated.

The story begins with gifts from family. Gifts with special meanings because they were special to people Katie loved and still loves. First her great Aunt and Grandmother gifted Katie with three diamonds that date back to a family engagement ring from 1939. (What a great gift!) When Katie and Will fell in love and talk of marriage came into the picture, Katie told Will about her diamonds. Together they decided to design a new setting to hold these meaningful diamonds. Katies Mother had also given her 3 rings which she had worn for years . The metal that would be used for the setting was now as special as the diamonds. Katie and Will chose Wades Jewelers in Gibsonville to help them design and craft the heirloom 3 diamond engagement ring .

Will put a lot of thought into making sure Katie did not see the finished ring until he presented it to her on bended knee. He asked her to marry him while on a special trip in January to one of my favorite spots in Blowing Rock-Chetola Resort. She of course loved the ring AND WILL and said YES!

I absolutely am inspired by their idea ! How many people do you know inherit jewelry that was special to someone they love but they do not quite know how to incorporate it into their life? What a special way to blend so many aspects of family history ,love and memories while making something unique… new…together… as a couple… and just what they wanted it to be! A great first project together.A happy memory.

I am so happy Katie's dear friend Emily referred her to me. Emily was a Rebecca Wellings Bride about 3 years ago. As I always say,Rebecca Wellings Brides are the best!

Special Wedding Weekend-With Bells On!

I love weddings.Basically all weddings. I cannot remember attending any that did not either make me smile, laugh,or shed a tear(in a good way).

We flew in yesterday from New Jersey, where this past weekend we shared a very,very special wedding.Our son Brian, married a truly beautiful woman(inside and out beautiful woman)Lauren.We are thrilled to say we feel like we have a new daughter.That is a wonderful feeling,having added another person to the family to love. I have always felt the same about our daughter ,Heather's husband of 12 years ,Jason ,as he is more than a son in law...he is like a son.

Over the next few weeks I would like to share some of our memories,hopefully some pictures also of the weekend.Preparations:from the perspective of the MOG and family, Tips about driving in New Jersey are NOT available....was there a book or movie or something about being lost in New Jersey?Oh well,I think you get the picture.

Carlson Craft has shared the following pictures and opinions regarding the latest trends in Garden Wedddings. Very interesting !

Most garden-themed weddings take place during the spring or early summer, but most of us enjoy sultry temperatures right through August. If you’re still pondering a themed wedding for this summer, the popular garden theme is definitely not out of the question!

Garden weddings tend to be less expensive, are more intimate, and elicit a more traditional, historic feel. The fresh, open air generates an easy-going, fancy-free feeling for guests as well as participants.

Nature becomes the predominant décor for garden weddings. Regardless of where you decide to have your wedding -- the backyard of a family member, the ranch of a close friend or your favorite park -- the scenery of a garden wedding, we could say, comes naturally! You do need to take into consideration that the weatherman isn’t always accurate. Have tents and/or an alternate location available just in case.

You might consider a relaxing setting for your guests by providing lawn games such as croquet, badminton and bocce ball. For the less athletic, you could have tables set up with classic board games like chess, checkers and backgammon.

Iced tea and lemonade are perfect summertime beverages to keep your guests hydrated, root beer floats might be served as a refreshing dessert, and fan wedding programs provide guests just one more way to keep cool throughout your celebration.

If your wedding will be extending into the evening/nighttime hours, Chinese lanterns or stringed lights are fabulous ways to provide ambiance and shed light as you dance the hours away.

1.Decide-Who will be issuing your invitation? This will be a factor when you decide on the verse format you choose.There are many different ways to choose wording for special situations.

2.Once you decide who will be issuing the invitation, begin looking at different wording formats and choose the one you like the best.Write or type it with your information and see how you like it.Online previews are so very excellent for this! You are able to see choices conveniently in conjuntion with the invitation you are choosing to help you with that decision. I include examples of invitation wording to help with ideas by email.Customization, using favorite sayings or scripture is also an option to be considered before meeting with stationer.The stationer will be able to help finalize your vision.

3.Decide-Who will be receiving the response cards to organize? Will they be mailed to you, your parents or someone else? Make sure you have correct address .

4.Look at different wording for your reception and response verses and get ideas of which verses you like best. Double check spelling of name and complete address for the reception site.

5.Decide-Are you going to give guests an option of food choices for the response card and if so, how you want that worded. Example: Some brides and grooms make things very simple and do not include the actual description of the particular entree'. Instead the selection is given as: Beef_Chicken_Fish_Vegetarian_. Others prefer simplicity with a hint of what is to come as: Filet Mignon and Shrimp_Salmon_Vegetarian_. You Were God's Idea

Have you ever had one of those days when you wondered if what you did really mattered to anyone, or if your life was really making a difference in the world? I have, several times. Recently, on one of those days when I was experiencing one of the particularly low valleys, I received a blessing from a simple card - kind of like one of those familiar greeting card commercials. No, it wasn't a Hallmark card.

Looking through the mail that morning, I opened a card from a thoughtful group of WMU ladies at a church I had never heard of, in a city I only knew by the name on the map. The words on the front of the card said, "You Were God's Idea: You were made by God and for God." Above these words was a picture of a single leaf pinned to a clothesline. As I looked at the picture and pondered the words, God's Spirit ministered to my heart in the way only God can do. He reminded me of one of my favorite passages from the Psalms, Psalms 139:13-16.

"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous - and how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was written in Your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed."

Wow! I am God's idea! He made me, and he doesn't make mistakes! Oh, how I needed to be reminded of this amazing truth! God not only knew me before I came into the world, I was His idea! As Rick Warren says in the Purpose Driven Life, I was made "by Him and for Him."

Even when I feel like a failure, or when everything falls apart around me, and nothing seems to make sense, I can rest assured; He knew what He was doing when He made me - with all my imperfections and shortcomings. If this is true, and I believe it is, we must thank Him for what is happening (or not happening), and look for His master plan - his eternal purpose, above and beyond the present landscape. God uses every circumstance, every glitch, every success, and every failure, to shape and mold us into His eternal design.

The problem is not with His design, but with our failure to see and learn from these bumps on the journey. He made me the way I am for His purpose, and only as I surrender to His leadership can I enjoy the journey toward that purpose.

Our problem is, we don't see it; or when we do see it, we fail to keep our eyes focused on what He is teaching us through these experiences. We get so caught up in what went wrong, or who did what and why, that we fail to look beyond our present circumstances to see where God is leading, or preparing to lead us.

Even our worst days can be great learning experiences - milestones that mark our journey, and enable us to grow, mature and ultimately become all God designed us to be.

Note: I will not be able to wear my wedding dress . Yes, only you can make your own guest list (of course with "lots of input" from everyone else ). Would you rather be more relaxed closer to your wedding date and get the guest list under control early on? Here are some thoughts for sending out Engagement Announcements or Save The Dates that may help you .(Follow the tips for advance planning even if you do not send out engagement announcement.)

One of the very first "to do lists" for brides is the all important guest list. Getting a good idea from both families as early as possible will help you enjoy that spa day and really relax closer to your wedding. The next step is thinking about the wedding venue for ceremony and reception. Optimally, you want to decide where you will be married,make sure the space is available,and know how many people the venue will accommodate.... before the first request for date saving is sent to guests. Knowing this before you finalize your engagement guest list helps you plan more efficiently for the wedding invitation guest list . How you ask? For beginners,people will actually respond to your save the date request by congratulations. They really are excited for you . Usually they will let you know how happy they are about attending,or how sad they are that they already have an unavoidalble conflict that week and will not be able to attend. These are not formal responses as a wedding invitation response , but very ,very insightful information that you can use , especially from elderly or out of State guests .( Aunts , uncles and all of your friends talk together and someone will get the news , suggest they let you know their intentions especially if unable to be with you on your special day)

Save The Dates and Engagement Announcements besides spreading happy news,are a wonderful tool,especially if sent far enough in advance to really get feed back. Typically if you are planning on at least a one year engagement, plan on sending out save the dates as soon as you have your venue. Eight to Nine months is a perfect time for save the dates. Wedding Invitations-How many should I order?

I realized while talking to a bride one afternoon ,how important this question is. A really lovely bride brought her very helpful matron of honor with her to our consultation.When the bride had made all of the selections and we had customized her invitation ensemble ,we came to this very question of how many invitations she needed."At least 350! " she answered. At this point I asked a few questions and reminded her that she did not need one invitation per invited guest, but more likely only one invitation per address with a few exceptions.You could see the lightbulb moment in her eyes! "Oh , wow , let me look at my planner again." Afterwards her required number of invitations needed was about half of the original number!Her matron of honor spoke up and voiced loudly she wished someone like me had explained everything to her when she ordered her invitations.She made that understandable mistake of ordering per guest and paid much more than was necessary. You never want to under order,but there is no need to over order by that degree either.I am listing my best recommendations below and hope this will help you.

Ordering Guidelines

Refer to your guest list. Remember when counting for number of invitations needed,
married couples receive one invitation. Young adults over the age of eighteen receive their own invitation.

Note: When extending the invitation to include someone’s significant other, take the time to call and ask for his or her full name. Both names should be written on the invitation and the inner envelope. This makes everyone feel welcome.

Good Advice: Always order 25 extra invitations for anyone that you may have overlooked. This saves you money and valuable time. When you have to reorder extra invitations the printing process starts over and is more costly. When ordering extras initially the cost is lower. Also order more outer and inner envelopes than invitations for any errors that may occur.

Typically envelopes come in increments of 25 for each type of envelope. Remember to order extras for inner and outer envelopes.

These are things the bride is supposed to wear on her wedding day for good luck.I love the real meanings behind traditions . Here is what I have to share for today's brides that may be curious about what these wedding words mean for their wedding day.
"Something old" symbolizes the couple's friends and family who will remain close during their marriage."Something new"signifies the couple's happy and prosperous future together."Something borrowed" reflects the journey of life and often is an heirloom with deep personal meaning."Something blue"represents fidelity.

Personal Note:My daughter designed her beautiful wedding gown with many strands of swirled handstrung pearls and with a gorgeous neckline that actually looked better without a necklace. She had a delima because she wanted to wear my pearl necklace that my mother and father had given me when I was 17 years old for graduation.I had worn the pearls on so many occassions,she grew up loving them and always wanting to put on.She had a secret pocket sewn into the top of her gown to place my string of pearls in, so she could still wear them down the asle.I was delighted that she thought of that since I had worn the pearls on my wedding day.She put a new twist on tradition that worked out perfectly. I look forward to my granddaughter many , many years from now ,hopefully wanting to wear those same beautiful pearls that her grandmother wore and that her mother wears today.

Newly engaged brides to be usually have many of the same questions.Today is a good example.Bride to be wants to know if inner and outer envelopes are included in price of invitation.I am sure most brides want to know.

So many designs and changes are going on in the stationery world that make this a very good question. Not too many years ago, all invitations came with inner and outer envelopes and yes even the traditional tissue to place over the invitation . Today with recycled papers, pocket invitations, and different styles to make wedding invitations more unique the rules have changed. No longer does every company include tissues automatically. This is a good green practice since tissues have not been needed for quite some time with better printing presses drying ink more quickly. They are available to order if a bride wants that special traditional touch however.

To answer the question about the inner and outer envelopes, your stationer will tell you if both or only single or none , come with your chosen invitation. The paper duvet collection gives a choice where you can use the pocket itself to mail everything without an envelope. I ususally advise my brides to purchase the single envelope also for addressing ease.

Even though the envelopes come with the invitation if you want printed return address or a liner placed inside the inner envelope there is an extra charge.When you are ordering 200 invitations the printed return address is worth the small charge! (Your hands will thank you)

Hope all of your wedding plans are good ones today.

I have had many questions from brides recently ,who after purchasing their beautiful diy kits decided they did not have time or desire to go through that journey for whatever reason. I offer these same suggestions to you as I have to those brides that have called me for advice .

1.First I ask if budget is the main concern for purchasing the diy kits to begin with.If yes is the answer , I direct them to my collection of Simply Sensible Budget Invitations by Carlson Craft.The first question from everyone when they see the price is, "Does that include printing?" They cannot believe the selections available beginning at $36.90 for 100 printed invitations.The next question is, "Are you sure that includes the printing?" Not only does it include the printing you can customize with motifs and ink colors. These prices are for online orders only and not offered in any catalogs.

2.You can always search out a local printer to do the printing for you on your diy kits . The cost will definitely be more than if you had begun your search with a wedding stationery consultant and in the end it is not diy.

Good Advice For Busy Summer Brides

Hello! I hope it is as beautiful where you are, as it is in Greensboro,North Carolina today! Our beautiful City is especially so in springtime . Wedding season is going into full swing . Busy brides that will be marrying in the summer are faced with choices to make while waiting on their responses to arrive from their invited guests. Follow these suggestions to keep things more relaxed.

Good Advice:
I advise Brides to choose programs,place cards and other accessories as soon as the invitation ensemble has been ordered. You will be glad you did this instead of waiting to the last moment. Note my word choose. A good wedding stationery consultant will keep your choices on file.(If you are ordering online you can save your choices to your favorites for later. Be sure to write down the collection you chose,the item number and brand just in case.) Choose the format you like best for programs and personalize all of the information. If there are any questions about an attendant or musician etc. being able to be in your wedding , fill out all info and and simply change or delete names later . Leave a blank space for any songs or readings that have not been decided on.Choose fonts,ink color,monogram or signature motif. Most fonts , motifs and designs can be carried over from your invitation ensemble,especially if you are working with the same company .

Try to order your programs at least one month before your wedding if possible. Your final count may not be in, but you should have a good idea by now .(Most brides are choosing to make the response date three weeks before their wedding. ) If in doubt, I would err on the side of ordering a few too many as the expense will be nomimal for an extra 25 .

The good news is: You are a savy bride ! It is 4 weeks until your wedding day.You desperately need to relax by the pool. Yesssssss!!!! You are able to take that pool break, because you made your decisions in the timeline suggested above! You need that pool break! Simply email your stationer with your final number and your formatted information (or upload your document to your saved favorite online) and you go to the pool .

Proofs are recommended for programs. Your stationer will order those for you while you are relaxing.Typically proofs can take up to three days.If only you could stay by the pool for 3 days! With all of the wording on your program it is a good idea to have your fiance' and even another close friend to look over the proof with you. Another set of eyes always helps!

Order place cards and table cards at the same time you order your programs if you have not done so already. If you did not order your informals with your invitation ensemble remember to order those now .( Informals are note cards printed with your new name, Mr. and Mrs., or new monogram and used to thank your guests for their wedding presents. ) Informals are great for many other uses as well.They are great for saying hello to friends and relatives that were unable to attend your wedding,to thank someone for something other than your wedding, or to slip inside a gift for a friend.

Fan programs are still very popular for summer weddings, especially in our Southern heat. A program fan and an outdoor Southern summer wedding, go together like love and marriage. Begin creating your guest list as soon as possible.

Once your guest count is established between you and your soon to be spouse,make sure to verify with parents that their list is included in the final count. When you have confirmed the site, date, time, and style of your wedding, reception, and your menu, you are ready to place your order. This should be done between four to six months before the wedding to give you time to proof and prepare the invitations for mailing. You do not want to rush. Mailing should be done six to eight weeks before the wedding. Give yourself two extra weeks during holidays or summer , especially if you did not send save the dates. You will face extra mail during holidays and will need to consider people’s social calendars and summer vacations.

I have had brides ask me about the necessity to know the menu before ordering their invitations. If you are not asking for menu choices to be made by your guests on your reponse card you do not have to have every detail for your menu planned in advance of ordering invitations . Menu Cards for each table along with personalized napkins,favors, programs and bridal party gifts may be ordered after your invitation ensemble has arrived and the calligrapher or someone with nice handwritting has begun their work.
