How miracles are made.

1.  Specificity.

Do you know what you want? Do you believe that you can actually have it? Do you believe that you actually DESERVE TO HAVE IT?

The more specific we are, the more we open our minds and hearts to possibility.

Don’t limit yourself by being “realistic.” Who defines what realistic even IS in the first place. Bleh.

I could write a whole ANTHOLOGY on all the complete and total NORMALCIES (is that a real word?) of the here and now that were at one point seen as unrealistic… or worse, COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY UNFATHOMABLE. (Man on the moon, the 4 min mile, electricity… THE INVENTION OF THE WHEEL!)

BE.SPECIFIC.

2. Put it out there.

Don’t be afraid to tell other people what you’re doing, wanting, searching for. The potential benefit FAR outweighs the risk. Ask for help. Ask for guidance. ASK FOR WHAT YOU NEED. 

“Ask and ye shall receive.”

“Ye have not, because ye ask not.”

Yadda, yadda, yadda. Enough said.

3.  Be open to third alternatives. 

Every time I set a goal or dream a dream or ask for something wonderful, I say in my mind, “This or something even better!” I learned it from my mom, who probably learned it from her mom, who probably made it up, because she was incredible.

Trust that if your heart’s in it, the very best thing, experience, lesson, etc etc etc is on it’s way!

Even if it’s not precisely what you’d anticipated, take it and run, or leap, or learn.

As I shared today on my personal blog, you don’t want to get so busy climbing the “ladder of success” that you haven’t paid any attention to which wall it’s leaning up against! You could miss a million miracles along the way!

Inspiration for Heirloom Engagement Ring

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with a lovely couple, Katie and Will today. They came to me for their wedding stationery ensemble consultation and also other aspects of their wedding . Everyone who knows me, knows I love the “rest of the story” as Paul Harvey used to say!Okay,I know I may be dating myself a bit but Katie and Will knew who Paul Harvey was... and his famous saying!I hope you will enjoy the”rest of the story”.

I noticed the unique ring right away on Katie's hand. It had the look of an heirloom and… it was. While she was telling me the story behind her ring, I could envision all of the family history and love associated with this 3 diamond ring.I wanted to share with you,how this couple decided upon their engagement ring, the design and the special meanings behind it. This could be an inspiration for you , whether you are a bride or groom to be , an aunt , a mother or grandmother, wishing to bestow or incorporate a special remembrance for any special occasion(especially a wedding) in a way that will be greatly remembered and appreciated.

The story begins with gifts from family. Gifts with special meanings because they were special to people Katie loved and still loves. First her great Aunt and Grandmother gifted Katie with three diamonds that date back to a family engagement ring from 1939. (What a great gift!) When Katie and Will fell in love and talk of marriage came into the picture, Katie told Will about her diamonds. Together they decided to design a new setting to hold these meaningful diamonds. Katies Mother had also given her 3 rings which she had worn for years . The metal that would be used for the setting was now as special as the diamonds. Katie and Will chose Wades Jewelers in Gibsonville to help them design and craft the heirloom 3 diamond engagement ring .

Will put a lot of thought into making sure Katie did not see the finished ring until he presented it to her on bended knee. He asked her to marry him while on a special trip in January to one of my favorite spots in Blowing Rock-Chetola Resort. She of course loved the ring AND WILL and said YES!

I absolutely am inspired by their idea ! How many people do you know inherit jewelry that was special to someone they love but they do not quite know how to incorporate it into their life? What a special way to blend so many aspects of family history ,love and memories while making something unique… new…together… as a couple… and just what they wanted it to be! A great first project together.A happy memory.


I am so happy Katie's dear friend Emily referred her to me. Emily was a Rebecca Wellings Bride about 3 years ago. As I always say,Rebecca Wellings Brides are the best!

You Were God's Idea

Have you ever had one of those days when you wondered if what you did really mattered to anyone, or if your life was really making a difference in the world? I have, several times. Recently, on one of those days when I was experiencing one of the particularly low valleys, I received a blessing from a simple card - kind of like one of those familiar greeting card commercials. No, it wasn't a Hallmark card.

Looking through the mail that morning, I opened a card from a thoughtful group of WMU ladies at a church I had never heard of, in a city I only knew by the name on the map. The words on the front of the card said, "You Were God's Idea: You were made by God and for God." Above these words was a picture of a single leaf pinned to a clothesline. As I looked at the picture and pondered the words, God's Spirit ministered to my heart in the way only God can do. He reminded me of one of my favorite passages from the Psalms, Psalms 139:13-16.

"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous - and how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was written in Your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed."

Wow! I am God's idea! He made me, and he doesn't make mistakes! Oh, how I needed to be reminded of this amazing truth! God not only knew me before I came into the world, I was His idea! As Rick Warren says in the Purpose Driven Life, I was made "by Him and for Him."

Even when I feel like a failure, or when everything falls apart around me, and nothing seems to make sense, I can rest assured; He knew what He was doing when He made me - with all my imperfections and shortcomings. If this is true, and I believe it is, we must thank Him for what is happening (or not happening), and look for His master plan - his eternal purpose, above and beyond the present landscape. God uses every circumstance, every glitch, every success, and every failure, to shape and mold us into His eternal design.

The problem is not with His design, but with our failure to see and learn from these bumps on the journey. He made me the way I am for His purpose, and only as I surrender to His leadership can I enjoy the journey toward that purpose.

Our problem is, we don't see it; or when we do see it, we fail to keep our eyes focused on what He is teaching us through these experiences. We get so caught up in what went wrong, or who did what and why, that we fail to look beyond our present circumstances to see where God is leading, or preparing to lead us.

Even our worst days can be great learning experiences - milestones that mark our journey, and enable us to grow, mature and ultimately become all God designed us to be.
